Illumisaurus

For Ages: 4 and up

Language: English

Topics Covered: Science, STEM, Dinosaurs, Botany, Ocean Creatures.

Summary: This book is RAD. Illumisaurus is an oversized book that takes the reader on a global tour of when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The illustrations are overlaid with each other, and each book has a set of plastic lenses that when peered through allow specific images to come through, filtering out others.

There are some “Species Guide” pages for each continent, and the reader learns all about the dinosaurs, plants, and ocean creatures that used to inhabit the land where there are now cities, towns, and fossil discovery sites are labeled on the continent maps! This book is really fun to sit down with, flip to a random page, and learn all about the creatures that I both love and have nightmares about. Something cool about this book is that it can be used for a variety of ages. Younger readers can look at the pictures and pick out familiar dinosaurs, and older readers can learn more in-depth with the pronunciation guides, fun descriptions of the plants and animals, and learn more about how the earth’s geography has shifted over millions of years.

I love the naturalist illustrations, they seem true to life instead of the more whimsical drawings we see in children’s books sometimes. This is for the serious dinosaur lover, of which I would count myself one. It’s easy to get sucked into the huge pages and colorful designs, which are really cool to look at even without the lens! This is the most recent of the “Illumi” series, and it’s worth getting excited about!

This book was generously sent by Quarto, but all opinions are my own! Illumisaurus is out today!
