Jamia Wilson & Andrea Pippins

Summary: Do I even need to state how adorable this book is? I cannot handle it.

I’m sure you’ve seen the brilliant 2018 smash hit by Jamia Wilson & Andrea Pippins with the same name and the bright yellow color. This board book takes similar phrases and names of historical Black figures and encourages the reader (or listener) to embody those traits.

I care, I bring people together, I am powerful. These are phrases all kids need to hear, and to be able to connect these traits to powerful Black individuals makes the message that much more dynamic. In the back is a mirror for someone to see themselves, which is just the most precious addition (I can’t help but think about all the smiling tiny humans that will love this aspect) in the book.

This creator duo is one of my very favorites, everything they produce is phenomenal and Pippins’ artistic style is brilliant and joyful. This board book is a must-read for the young, gifted, and Black readers in your life!

This book was kindly sent by Quarto, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be able to review it. All opinions and decision to review is my own!
