summary

My First Book of Growing Food & Houseplants are the perfect additions to the bookshelf of a family that is passionate about sustainability and the natural world around us! With adorable illustrations and excellent vocabulary, these will be the perfect pair to help teach the littlest of family members what those green things all over the place are.

Growing Food introduces different foods, as well as terms like ‘fruit’ and ‘vegetable’ and shows the process of planting. I like that it shows different options of planting in pots on a patio, or outdoors like farming in raised beds. This is a great mirror for families living in apartments or in dwellings that aren’t suited for large outdoor growing setups!

Houseplants gives some memorable characteristics of common houseplants for readers to identify, and provides tips on what the plant grows best in. Concepts of plant care in the household are illustrated with the same adorable style that Gilland has. In the back are steps to repotting a plant and picking out the perfect spot for it!

These board books were kindly sent by DuoPress books, but all opinions are my own! They’re being released today!
